Keeping justice accessible through collective action
What we do
When someone has survived torture, persecution, or harm in custody, their body and mind often hold the evidence. Our clinicians document that evidence in forensic evaluations and testimony that attorneys use in asylum cases, parole and release petitions, and other proceedings. We then stay with clients, connecting them to long-term needs. Alongside this direct work, we train clinicians and legal partners in forensic skills and in how the law shapes health and health equity.
We partner with Physicians for Human Rights and the Medical Justice Alliance, national organizations that share our commitment to medical-legal advocacy.
Who we are
Volunteer-run. Every evaluation is done pro bono by clinicians who donate their time.
Multi-institutional. Our volunteers come from hospitals, medical schools, community health centers and training programs across Chicago and across the country.
Learning cohorts. Every case is completed by a cohort under direct clinical supervision and mentorship.
Beyond the report. Case management connects each client to long-term care and support.
In community. We work alongside attorneys, advocates, and directly impacted people.
Trauma-informed. We center the dignity, consent, and pace of every person we serve.
Our Vision
Our Mission
Since our inception, we have advanced organizations across sectors by pairing strategic insight with disciplined execution. Our multidisciplinary team analyzes each objective, designs a tailored roadmap, and implements with rigorous oversight.
We equip clinicians and clinician-learners with the skills, relationships, and grounding to move between medical care, legal advocacy, and collective action in defense of life. Through community-centered forensic work, mentorship, and education, we support people impacted by social and political forces that disrupt health. We are building toward a future where this kind of practice is no longer rare but a shared standard of how clinicians are trained, supported, and engaged in the world.
